Hi! My name is Kevin Budnik. I draw comics mostly about myself, but sometimes other things. contact@kevinbudnik.com
Kickstarter Stretch Goal time!Thank you guys for helping Old Gum Wrappers and Grocery Lists reach it’s funding goal. I’m really, truly touched. So far, 100 friends, cartoonists, and strangers who I’m sure are lovely people chipped in and most of them will be receiving a copy of my new comics collection by this winter. But the Kickstarter isn’t over!!! If Old Gum Wrappers and Grocery Lists is able to fund an additional 1,000 by September 1st, I’ll use the money from that to print Flower Grow a collection of journal comics and one page stories (several of which were originally printed in New City, a Chicago-based weekly free publication).Anyone who pledges $20 or more will receive a copy of Flower Grow: Collected StoriesThe comics in Flower Grow are a mixture of FULL COLOR and black and white water color and are presented in semi-chronological order.Flower Grow also collects Good Weather for Bad Poetry, a series of strips drawn partially for the Columbia College newspaper, The Chronicle

Bonus Art - Grant Reynolds
Grant is a cartoonist and another good friend who contributed an alternate cover for the Covers Gallery inside Old Gum Wrappers and Grocery Lists.
His image captures the mood of the book really beautifully. I’m very excited to include it.

My sister is 14 years old.
I’ve never met her (or my other brother, who is somewhere between 8 and 11), our relationship exists entirely through texting, facebook, and the very occasional phone conversation, for complicated reasons.
Last night, she called me. It was her first day of high school, and although she enjoyed it she was having a hard time dealing with life in general. Like me, she’s fairly self aware, and knew that it was most likely angst brought on by being 14. But even so, at night, things kind of suck.
I showed her this comic, and it spoke to her. She empathized and understood that what she’s experiencing is a thing and that it manifests in a million ways. It made her feel better to know that she isn’t alone, in a way that me telling her that yeah, that happens pretty much no matter what couldn’t do.
So, thanks, comics, for being awesome. And Kevin, for making awesome comics.

I’m trying to figure out how to process this without crying. I remember a lot of nights in highschool where I felt really alone. the truth is I still feel that way all the time. Life gets so much better when your world opens up after school. For me it’s about not trying to push away the people who really care about me and want to be a part of my life. That’s the advice I can give to anyone going through any kind of loneliness- it’s okay and even healthy to stew in it sometimes but don’t forget that people who love you are a phone call away
